Art Quilt
20"w x 16"h
Third in “The Churches Series”
The inspiration for this quilt is the National Cathedral itself as a church for national purposes called to embody God's love and to welcome people of all faiths and none.

The ink sketch on fabric was made from a personal photograph that I took the last time I was in D.C. Colored with fabric paints. Free machine quilted and embroidered. The choice of colors red and purple are typical of the colors used by the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church and the geometric shapes that surround the sketch mimic stained glass. The embellishments consist of the Jerusalem Cross which is used by the National Cathedral. Computer prints on fabric of the main altar and the main entrance rose window are surrounded by seed beads. The seal of the Episcopal Church and one of the outside stone angels are printed on fabric. The calligraphy was written on *"Papel Amate" from Mexico. Other embellishments are yarn, a hand-knit heart, hand-made glass beads, a hand-decorated ceramic tile, and other metal findings.

*Papel Amate is Mexican bark paper, hand-crafted for centuries and still made today.
